Travel back in time and discover this classic Dodge Firearrow III Coupe!

In the early 1950s, Dodge produced a series of concept cars under the Firearrow name. The first two Firearrows were convertibles and, since they were designed mainly for the show car circuit, they weren’t fully functional or road-worthy. The third Firearrow was a coupe, and it was built to run as good as it looked.

Like its predecessors, Firearrow III was a joint effort between Dodge and Ghia, the Italian coach building firm. Chrysler design chief Virgil Exner gave Ghia stylist Luigi Segre free hand to create an all-new coupe body to fit on a production Dodge Royal chassis. Advanced features in Segre’s stunning design included expansive, wraparound glass—the rear window was one of the largest pieces of molded automotive glass produced up to that time.

With its lightweight coupe body combined with a Dodge Red Ram Hemi V8, the Firearrow III was an impressive performer.  Dodge hired the famed female aircraft racing pilot Betty Skelton to test the coupe at the then brand-new Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan. In June of 1954 on the high-speed oval at Chelsea, she drove the Firearrow III to a new ladies’ closed course speed of 143.44 mph—wearing a dress and high heels.

Once the Firearrow III’s test and show duties were completed, the car was sent back to Italy in order to avoid the extremely high import duties then in effect. There it remained until a few years ago when the car was rediscovered and brought back to the United States. After receiving a complete, nut-and-bolt restoration to the beautiful state you see here, the Firearrow III Coupe sold at auction in 2009 for $880,000.

Kia Partners With Women's Automotive Site On Breast Cancer

Kia_breast_cancer_awareness
Irvine-based Kia Motors America has partnered with HerHighway.com, a site dedicated to providing women with information about cars and driving, for a new campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Kia will provide vehicles for Drive Breast Cancer Awareness, a national event created by HerHighway's editor-in-chief Christina Selter in 2011, after she was diagnosed with possible ALCL, a rare form of breast cancer. The campaign aims to raise awareness and remember those who lost to breast cancer.

"Kia is deeply committed to supporting HerHighway and the 'Drive Breast Cancer Awareness' event which delivers much-needed awareness towards a disease that affects approximately one in eight women in the United States," said Michael Sprague, Kia Motors America' executive vice president of marketing and communications.

The eight-day road trip will start in Los Angeles on Sept. 25 and end in New York City on Oct. 2, with stops along the way to educate others about breast cancer and the event.

Is 2013 Dodge Dart the Roomiest Compact? Read our statistics here!

"I don't design cars I don't fit into."

I bet for most designers in the auto industry, that's not a bold statement.

But for 6'7" Chrysler Group Head of Interior Design Klaus Busse (above, in the back seat of a 2013 Dodge Dart) that's saying something.

The 2013 Dodge Dart has more of a "design package," Busse said. That design package, which means using multiple teams within Chrysler Group to look at the entire interior experience for owners, is the result of a close working relationship between the interior and exterior design, engineering and program teams for each vehicle.

It's the true team approach that resulted in many features in the Dodge Dart that are uncommon in most compact cars. Below is a quick look at one of the more noticeable features of the new Dart: the interior of a mid-size sedan in a compact car.

The comparisons are just a selection based on data from each automaker’s website. So, we're not answering our headline question with a yes, but let's just say, the Dart is darn roomy.

500 units of the 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX 6 speed will be made for the US Market

2013_kia_rio_sx_with_six-speed
Only 500 units of the 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX 6 speed will be made for the US Market. That means that only a few models will be available at showrooms once they are released. With a base price of $17,900 these examples are sure to fly out of dealerships as soon as they come in.The Rio SX M/T is inspired by Kia's involvement in motorsports and their involvement in B-Spec racing.B spec racing came about when Honda and Mazda along with race sanctioned bodies like NASA and SCCA decided to introduce low-cost showroom stock race series for budget-conscious enthusiasts.

The 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX M/T is powered by a 138 HP 4 cylinder direct injection engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing. Two color choices come in Signal Red and Electronic Blue. Outside you'll find the distinctive tiger nose design up front with an aggressive stance for a small car. 17 inch alloys come standard along with 7 inch touch screen navigation, sport tuned suspension, rear camera display and a minimalistic black interior trim.

Although only 500 units will be produced, it's a good sign from a company who decides to listen to the desires of its customer base. And with Kia going starting it's racing heritage, only good things can trickle down from lessons learned on the track. And if you even considered going B-Spec racing yourself, for an additional $14,000, Kinetic Motorsports based out of Georgia offers complete kits including pre-cut roll cages, racing harness, racing suspensions, along with all the other safety bits to keep you safe and secure under speed.

Kia Motors and DonorsChoose.org to Secure Two Million Dollars for public school students!

Classroom
Kia Motors America (KMA) has just joined hands with an online charity that makes it possible for everyone to help students in need. The charity, DonorsChoose.org, was founded in 2000 and since then has helped to secure funding for more than $120 million. Money that has been spent on art supplies, books, technology and everything else students need.

In 2012, just couple of days ago, KMA made a $1 million commitment to public schools. This commitment brought to life the Double Your Impact campaign that has been designed to help fund classroom projects around the entire Kias network in the United States. The network consists of more than 755 retail showrooms, companys U.S. headquarters and also their assembly plant in southwest Georgia.

Public schools near Kias network are invited to post their classroom projects that are in need of funding on www.donorschoose.org. Kia will be matching all donations by citizen philanthropists until the $1 million has been exhausted. The classroom projects that can get funded this way, are requests for music instruments, field trips, books and everything else related. For more information, see the player below and also visit DonorsChoose.org.

"Kia is committed to making a difference and is proud to be the first automotive brand to establish a national philanthropic partnership with DonorsChoose.org to help provide school supplies for children most in need, while supporting all of the communities across the country that we call home, " said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA.
